Midnight Visitor

About 1:30am, Scott and I both jolted awake when we heard a door open in the house. Scott peeked out our bedroom door to find Sam. Poor guy was too hot to sleep and thought he could sleep better in our room, in our bed. No amount of convincing worked, so Scott finally volunteered to sleep on the couch. I was quite surprised -- Sam fell asleep really fast once we got him in our bed, and once I moved the fan so it actually blew on both of us, his restlessness disappeared.

He wasn't the only one struggling last night. I heard Anna cry out a few times, and thought I might have heard Elli too. Scott and I both had a tough time getting back to sleep once Sam woke us up -- I think I tossed and turned for 3 hours.

We've decided that no matter how much it costs, we have to get someone out here today. If we can't get it running by tonight, I don't know what we'll do. I have no idea how we're going to survive today, actually. I have three back-to-back meetings at work this afternoon and staying awake for them and the drive home will be a Herculean task.

In a way, I feel like a wuss, because I know that people survived the summer heat and humidity for centuries. But the reality is that the kids just didn't sleep well last night, even with fans in each room. And that means a rough day for the parents, who also didn't sleep. Nothing wussy about that!
