Laundry Break

Normally, laundry is another mountainous chore that is never actually done. When you have six people in the family, once everyone puts their pjs on, you've got a whole load of newly-dirtied clothes!

However, today I'm taking a break from the hospital to do a load of laundry at a nearby friend's house. I'll be staying with Little Boy tonight while Scott goes home to spend some time with Older Boy and Little Girl. Little Boy has been very quiet and stable today, content to simply rest and heal. He had an even more complex surgery than anticipated yesterday, so his body needs the break. But he's doing well at the moment, so we agreed that I should get out for a couple of hours, wash the clothes we packed for the hospital, and remind myself that the world still turns even when your child is sleeping in an intensive care unit. (That's amazingly easy to forget, believe it or not.)

It's a refreshing break to do something normal and mundane, see sunshine, breathe unsterilized outside air, and hear birds instead of monitors, breathing machines, and IV pumps.

Then tomorrow evening I'll take my turn going home, sleeping in our own bed for the first time since Monday, and enjoying some playtime with Older Boy and Little Girl.
