Week's End Wrap-up

It's been a busy week, and I haven't handled it well. I should know by now that whenever you throw children into an equation, it adds a certain degree of uncertainty that you simply MUST allow for if you want to successfully accomplish whatever is on the agenda for that day.

I made critical mis-calculations this week, compounded by two snow days with temps too cold for all of us to go outside. I know lots of other people bundled up and played out there, but Elli doesn't stay warm too well, and since I'm still pretty wiped out from this pregnancy, I just wasn't up to bundling four people up to the degree necessary to safely play in sub-zero windchills, when one of those people needs to be physically moved everywhere.

We did have one major success this week. We somehow managed to get our home warranty company to give us a cash-out settlement for our heat pump! They are sending us a check for almost $2000 to put towards the heat pump WE want to put in. This is four times more than I dared to hope for, plus it was about 300% easier than I expected to get it. Our heat pump is getting installed this afternoon, and when all is said and done, we'll have some money left in savings plus we won't have to use our tax refund either!

Wednesday I found a very brave friend who watched my three kids while I went to a doctor's appointment. This was a very good thing because he was running behind and I had some tests done that I wasn't expecting (all routine -- just wasn't told that was coming ahead of time). I got a lot of knitting done with all that alone time waiting around -- I finished the top cuff and began casting off! Then another friend came over in the afternoon and helped me get the house cleaned up for prayer meeting that night. The kids enjoyed having friends over -- helped break up the monotony of another day stuck at home.

Thursday, I drove with Sam and Anna about 2 hours to my sister's place. My in-laws have a nice big trailer that I took for my sister's move this weekend. We have a lot going on at home this weekend, so we couldn't actually help move them, but we took them boxes and the trailer. I had just enough time to go, park the trailer at a friend's house, eat some lunch with my sister and her family, and race back to get Elli off the bus and give the guy a check to buy our new heat pump. The kids traveled really well and had a good time visiting with their cousin.

Friday I was at work before 7am and got home around 1pm. It was a very early start after an exceptionally bad night's sleep, so yesterday evening I collapsed asleep on the couch at 7pm. Anna came out around 9 and snuggled with me for awhile... but she kept ramming her head into my neck which was extremely uncomfortable. So I finally woke up enough to put her and myself to bed in our beds.

Today Scott had a men's Bible study at church, then we both had choir practice. Our heat pump is being installed right now, and I have to run some errands. I really should try to get a nap this afternoon because tonight our church is providing a couple's night out for Valentine's Day. So we're using some gift certificates to enjoy a dinner at Olive Garden while the kids have pizza and play with their friends.
