Sam fell at school today and hurt his knee enough that he had to sit for awhile before getting back up. His teacher sat with him, checking the knee all over and checking for anything significant. After a few minutes, he got up and tried to walk, but his knee buckled under him.
His teacher said that he was rather puzzled by this. He sat down again with her for a couple more minutes, then tried again. This time he walked ok, though he favored the knee the rest of the morning.
Then he tried to run. His knee buckled under him again.
When she sat down with him again (while the other teacher went for ice and the school's director), Sam looked at her with this totally befuddled look on his face and said, "I've had this knee all these years and it just stopped working!"
Stifling her laugh, she replied, "Yeah, you've had it four years now, haven't you?"
"Yes, and it just won't work!" he responded.
(He's fine now -- walking, running, climbing, and everything else this afternoon.)
