"Snow" Day

Today school is cancelled for both kids. In one sense, I'm glad I didn't have to bundle everyone up to the degree necessary to protect them from -24 degree wind chills. On the other hand, now I have to keep three stir-crazy kids occupied for an entire day... inside.

There is NO WAY I'm taking all three anywhere in this bitter cold. I might have considered it with just two -- I can carry Anna (for now) and Sam can run pretty fast. But messing with a wheelchair and a child who cannot keep herself covered or maintain her body temperature that well is something I only do when absolutely necessary.

So far, we've stripped and remade everyone's beds, worked on laundering all those sheets (and quilts -- I decided they were due for a washing as well), painted, read books, and only watched the usual amount of tv for a school day. I'm determined not to use the tv any more than normal.

I think the day has been rather boring for Elli. The housework must get done, so I just don't have time to do all the work it takes to do all sorts of fun stuff with her all day (plus I have to constantly supervise and intervene with the other two). So I'm hoping to do some stuff with her this afternoon.

We'll see. I'm already feeling the need for a nap. Being in the second trimester has not given me any new surge of energy as all the books and website promise. I still hold out hope, but I'm beginning to realize that those long quiet afternoons to myself may be history for a long while.

No word from our home warranty company on the heat pump. Might need to call and pester them -- I want to know if we can get a settlement from them to put toward the heat pump WE want -- not the bottom-of-the-heap piece of junk they most likely will want to install.
At least we were going to be on auxilliary heat this week anyway! No heat pump can stand up to 0 degree weather.
