Stop the Feces Madness!

I have been potty training night-training attempting to complete toilet training my son for two years now. I'm about ready to start with my daughter. I had no idea that in two years, I would still have so many issues things to still finish... like staying dry through the night, getting to the bathroom on time when having a bowel movement, wiping clean . wiping thoroughly . wiping at all.

Today I had to deal with the whole gamut. Said son wore himself out thoroughly yesterday with a trip to the zoo and an hour of bike riding with the neighbor kids and his cousin after dinner. He drank a lot before bed. So not too surprising that he woke up this morning. But he either didn't wipe or didn't get to the toilet on time two separate times today, on top of all that.

And then I found it while remaking his bed for his nap.

A Blob. Dark Brown. Distinctive Smell. Laying under his bed. At the foot of the bed under the far corner near the wall. Like it had fallen from the bedding when I stripped the bed this morning.

I suppose I should be grateful I found it within 12 hours. It could have laid there for days. For all I know it has.

I'm at the end of my rope with this. I'm at the punitive stage now -- severe consequences for each time he fails to either get to the toilet on time, wipe at all, or get help if he tries and still can't get it all. But that doesn't seem to be working either, unless it just takes a Painfully Long Time.

Anyone have any ideas? Suggestions? Encouragement? Recommendations for good insane asylums?
