Last night I had an argument with Elli.
It was 9pm, I had put the other two kids to bed after a lively evening of play with the children of the people gathered in our home for prayer. Elli had spend the evening with her aide, so hadn't seen much of us. I took her out to the couch with me to give her a drink.
She drank for a minute, then pushed her cup away. I could tell she had something to say, so I gave her the Dynavox.
She went to her main page, then "Food and Drink," "Dessert," "Pudding."
Huge smile at me.
I told her, "No Elli. You had pudding at dinner, and then you had a cookie. You've had all the dessert you can for the day."
She went to her conversation page, then "Yes or No," then started hitting, "yes" over and over, grinning at me.
I had to restrain the grin. "No, Elli. You can't have dessert. Your choice is milk or bed."
"Yes. Yes. Yes." More grins.
Scott came over and I told him I was having a fantastic argument with Elli. She then went back to her dessert page and asked him for pudding!
There is nothing the matter with this girl's thought processes. Arguing, asking the other parent, persisting in her request... it's all totally normal. I love it.
