Happy birthday, Little Boy! I can't tell you how delighted we have been to watch you grow and defy the doctors' predictions about your condition. We have relished every moment of this past year: every smile and giggle, every milestone, every snuggle and kiss.

I wish you didn't have to celebrate by having heart surgery next week. I promise that if when I have heart surgery, I will allow you to drag me out of bed the next day and make me walk laps around the unit. ... but only if you want the job!
