Yesterday my throat swelled up and started aching. I looked in the mirror and to my very great dismay, I discovered white spots on my right tonsil.
Strep.
I got strep for the first time as an adult three years ago. I didn't know what it was for days, so it got really bad before I finally went to the doctor. It was utter misery.
I don't have time for this.
I went to the doctor this morning -- it was the earliest I could get in.
The good news is that my strep culture came back negative. So it isn't strep, or I'm one of the 3% of the population who never tests positive.
The bad news is that I have tonsilitis. One more ingredient in the germ stew we've been concocting here for the past 2 1/2 weeks.
The doctor sent me home with amoxicillin that I can take now or wait and see if the infection clears on its own.
I'm waiting for now, but the aching has gotten steadily worse today, and is inching up the side of my face into my cheek. I think I might not wait much longer.
